Elk River Trail

Follows the Elk the whole way, which makes it the easiest access to canoeing, kayaking and fishing on the river.

Getting to the trailhead

Clendenin to Gassaway; open 24 hours; trail office at 12 Buffalo Creek Road, Clay

Part of Rail-trails

Old railroad grades converted to crushed-limestone paths. Grades are gentle by design, which makes these the most accessible long-distance walking and riding in the state, and the tunnels and bridges are the reason to go rather than incidental to it.
