The only section of the Allegheny Trail on the national forest, on a route the Forest Service says runs from Virginia to Pennsylvania.

Old railroad grades converted to crushed-limestone paths. Grades are gentle by design, which makes these the most accessible long-distance walking and riding in the state, and the tunnels and bridges are the reason to go rather than incidental to it.
