Know before you go
- Ten minutes from Morgantown and I-68
- Lake recreation and rail-trail access in the same area
What you can do here
Two courses share the property, the Lakeview and the Mountainview, with lodging and conference space attached, which is why this is the main golf destination in the north-central part of the state. Cheat Lake sits below it and Morgantown and I-68 are ten minutes off. Call for tee times, rates and current course conditions.
The resort sits on Cheat Lake, and lake recreation is one of the things the immediate area offers alongside rail-trail access. Impounded water like this stays paddleable on days when rivers are too low or running too hard. Nothing is published here about rentals or launch points, so sort out where you can put in before arriving with a boat.
Cheat Lake is the reason to bring a board here: flat water ten minutes from Morgantown, in the same area as the rail-trail. The property is a golf resort first and publishes nothing about board rentals or a designated launch. Ask ahead, and plan on a calm morning rather than a windy afternoon on open water.

West Virginia has roughly 1.5 million acres of public land and a handful of places that carry almost all of the attention. The consequence is that a great deal of very good ground sits nearly empty, usually for one of three reasons: nobody has heard of it, the road in is gated or rough, or it is undeveloped and has nothing to advertise. Those are the places below — of them across regions.
