Part of Cranberry Wilderness and the Highland Scenic Highway
47,815 acres in Pocahontas and Webster counties with over 70 miles of maintained trail between 2,400 and more than 4,600 feet. Three trailheads leave the Highland Scenic Highway — Big Beechy, North South–East and Forks of Cranberry — one sits by Cranberry Campground, and two more are on Forest Road 86. Route 150 is not plowed in winter, which closes the highway trailheads for months. Groups are capped at ten and trails are maintained for foot travel only.
The trail runs in Highland Scenic Highway. A 43-mile National Scenic Byway climbing over 4,500 feet across the Allegheny plateau between Richwood and US 219, with four major overlooks and access to Cranberry Glades, the Falls of Hills Creek and the Cranberry Wilderness. No services on the highest section, which closes to maintenance in deep winter.
